Professor Rod Hill was appointed as the Head of School, Biomedical Sciences in September, 2014. Prior to joining CSU ,Professor Hill was the Strategic Adviser to the Vice President for Research at the University of Idaho in the USA. In this role, he was coordinating multi-university projects across the north-west region. The overall theme of these projects aimed to improve health-care and socio-economic infrastructure in rural regions through the combined research and outreach efforts of the three major land-grant universities in the region. Professor Hill was also engaged in policy development, spending time in Washington, D.C. and working with some of the sixty organizations that represent higher education in Washington. Through this work, Rod was nominated and completed the American Council on Education, National Fellow's Program in 2010-11, based at the University of Michigan offices in Washington and in 2013, he was elected by his peers as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Rod continues to lead his discipline society Science Policy Committee. This group is building a program to underpin stronger collaboration amongst the Federal funding agencies, facilitating new synergies and aiming to develop stronger cross funding agency mechanisms to support multi-disciplinary research.
Rod has a strong record of research, teaching and in building multi-disciplinary programs, having led federally funded multi-investigator awards supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. His expertise crosses diverse disciplines such as physiology and nanotechnology. His network of collaborators includes social scientists, physicists, chemists, materials engineers and others from varied disciplines across the biological sciences and from multiple nations including the UK, Germany, Spain, and China. Originally from Queensland, Rod spent 13 years working in the United States.
